🛡️ 7 Facts vs. Fictions About AMCI: The Truth Behind the Talk

Misinformation is at an all-time high, and it’s no coincidence that this increase began shortly after AMCI launched our full, 16-week YouTube Medical Coding Course, completely free.

As our reach expanded and thousands began learning coding at no cost, AMCI began noticing competitors engaging in or echoing misinformation. We don’t blame them, and we can’t say it’s willful,  but that’s sometimes the price you pay when your innovation causes others to lose revenue.

Ironically, AMCI has also experienced a loss in revenue because of our own free course.
But we made that decision intentionally and with purpose.

We released our free 16-week YouTube course to ensure that self-studying coders were training correctly, especially those struggling to secure employment because of incomplete or inaccurate instruction elsewhere. Many people were spending money on courses that left them unprepared for certification or the job market.
We wanted to change that.

This moment highlights a greater truth, the difference between those who teach for profit and those who teach for purpose.

AMCI has always stood for purpose, ethics, and the advancement of forensic, accurate, and ethical coders.

Each year, AMCI trains over 15,000 students (majority are free), maintains a 95% certification exam passer rating, and is proudly recognized as an AHIMA Educational Partner.
Still, a few persistent myths continue to circulate online. So let’s separate fact from fiction.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #1: “AMCI courses are outdated.”

Fact: Our curriculum is updated every year and built on the latest coding standards.

All paid courses including the Medical Coding Dual Certification (MCDC) program are updated annually and feature current-year ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II instruction.
Our free i2MC course uses older foundational lectures, but those principles remain accurate because coding fundamentals rarely change.

Our 2025 Main YouTube lectures are brand-new, free and aligned with current guidelines.

💎 Takeaway: A forensic coder always evolves, and AMCI evolves with them.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #2: “AMCI has hidden costs.”

Fact: Our pricing is transparent with no hidden fees, no surprises.

The MCDC tuition is $3,682.50.
This covers the complete course, including instructor access, group studies, internships, and job assistance.

While textbooks, memberships, and certification exam fees are additional, AMCI provides clear guidance and recommendations upfront so students always know exactly what to expect.
We also offer flexible payment plans for those who prefer to spread tuition over time.

💎 Takeaway: Transparency builds trust , and trust builds world-class coders.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #3: “AMCI’s methods aren’t recognized.”

Fact: Our teaching systems are respected and proven.

AMCI’s proprietary methods:  CHUN™, TAP™, KWC™, and FTR™ have revolutionized how coders learn, apply, and retain complex guidelines. These systems create coders who are Forensic, Accurate, Certified, and Ethical (FACE): The gold standard in the field.

AMCI graduates excel in both professional and facility settings, with a 95% certification exam pass rate (for students who complete the MCDC course) that speaks for itself.

💎Takeaway:  Recognition isn’t claimed,  it’s earned.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #4: “AMCI lacks student support.”

Fact: We respond to every student within 24 hours.

AMCI’s instructors and support team are deeply committed to student success. We respond to every inquiry whether by email, chat, or Discord within 24 hours.

While we do our best to occasionally engage with YouTube learners, our priority will always be our enrolled students. When communication issues arise, they’re often due to incorrect contact information or emails sent from unregistered addresses.

AMCI utilizes one of the most advanced Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems in education to ensure every inquiry is tracked and answered promptly. In addition, students receive continuous support through live group studies, boot camps, and personalized instructor feedback, ensuring that no one is ever left behind.

💎 Takeaway: Support isn’t an afterthought,  it’s part of the foundation.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #5: “AMCI intimidates students.”

Fact: We uphold ethics never intimidation.

AMCI maintains a strict ethics policy, aligned with AHIMA’s professional code.
We expect integrity from every student and instructor alike.
It’s not unreasonable to ask someone to remove false or disparaging comments, especially when that person is applying to a paid program.

Upholding truth and professionalism protects both the student body and the reputation of ethical coders everywhere.

💎 Takeaway: Accountability isn’t intimidation, it’s integrity in action.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #6: “AMCI’s YouTube videos are the same as the paid course.”

Fact: Absolutely not.

Our YouTube videos are part of AMCI’s mission to make coding education accessible to everyone, but they represent only a fraction of the MCDC course.
Here’s the breakdown:

  • Part I: 75% private lectures
  • Part II: 90% private lectures
  • Part III: 85% private lectures

While we occasionally use a YouTube video within a module, most of our content including advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT instruction is available exclusively to enrolled students.
In fact, many schools and instructors use our public content as reference material for their own courses.

💎 Takeaway:  Free helps you start, private mastery sets you apart.

🔹 Fact vs. Fiction #7: “AMCI instruction is pre-recorded.”

Fact: True — and intentionally so, to ensure consistency and excellence.

Our pre-recorded lectures ensure that every student receives the same high-quality instruction, regardless of schedule or time zone.  At the same time, AMCI instructors are live in the chat during group studies, providing direct engagement and real-time answers.

This hybrid model lets us give each student our full attention without sacrificing content quality or consistency.

💎 Takeaway: Consistency creates confidence, and confidence passes exams.

Final Thoughts

Misinformation benefits those who want to profit from confusion.
At AMCI, we teach from a place of purpose , not profit. We created our free course to help self-studying coders gain proper, ethical instruction so they can succeed in certification and employment.  Yes, it impacted our revenue,  but it elevated the profession.
